Edwin Lord Weeks was an American Orientalist painter, born in 1849 and working until 1903. He travelled widely through India, Persia and Morocco, and painted what he saw with unusual patience and precision. Weeks is remembered today for the richness of that detail and for the calm, observant eye he brought to each scene.
