About Michelangelo Anselmi

Michelangelo Anselmi (c.1491-1554) was an Italian painter of the Renaissance, active almost entirely in Parma. He trained in Siena, and that Sienese softness never quite left him, though in Parma he came under the influence of Correggio and later Parmigianino. Anselmi worked mainly in fresco, decorating chapels in Parma Cathedral, San Giovanni Evangelista and Santa Maria della Steccata. His figures are rounded and gentle, his colour warm and pale. Records of his life are thin, and a number of attributions are still argued over by scholars.
