You recognise leather by its grain: a pebbled surface breaks light into small highlights instead of one clean sweep of sheen. Which wall to give it

It wants low, warm light. Keep it off the hob wall, where oil and scrubbing are a tile's job, and keep it to one wall: four dark sides shut a small room down.

Damp, dust and dark walls

Fix damp before you paper: the wall should be clean, smooth, oil-primed and dry, and an unprepared site can attract a visiting fee. Seepage shows as bubbling later, and a leather field, one continuous tone, telegraphs a bubble more plainly than a busy pattern. Then dust: a dark surface shows grit sooner, so give it the dry pass you give a bookshelf.

No. It reproduces the grain, creasing and colour of hide as a printed image, so it carries the look without the cost or upkeep of a skin. Run a hand across it and the wall is flat; the base is our standard PVC-free covering.

Which room suits leather texture wallpaper best?

The wall behind a bed, a study wall, or a bar corner: one feature wall under warm, low light, with the others left painted. In a 10 by 12 bedroom that is usually the headboard wall. Not beside the hob, and not a wall with seepage.

Can faux leather wallpaper be wiped clean?

Yes, with a damp cloth, which takes off the film steam and light spatter leave behind. Wipe rather than scrub, since scrubbing burnishes the print, and a shine that is not part of the grain is what gives a leather wall away.
