Non woven wallpaper and what the backing does

Non-woven is the backing, not the picture: cellulose blended with synthetic fibre, which holds its size when wet. Paper backings swell with paste and shrink as they dry, which is how gaps open at the seams. Here the paste goes on the wall, not the sheet, so panels can still be nudged into line. The designs below are our full wallpaper range, not a non-woven-only set.

Where it works, and the wall to leave alone

Put it where the wall is sound and dry and one surface carries the room: behind a headboard, on a sofa wall, down a passage. In a 10 by 12 bedroom, one papered wall is usually enough. It is no remedy for damp, so treat seepage first, and it does not belong on the hob wall or in a shower zone.

How it is measured and fitted

Wallpaper here is sold by the square foot and cut to your wall, not in fixed rolls, from Rs 129 per square foot. The wall should be clean, smooth, oil-primed and dry. Prints arrive in 2 to 4 foot sections that overlap 0.5 to 1 inch at the joins. Installation is free above Rs 5,000 on walls up to 10 feet in major cities.

Living with it

Dust is the daily problem in an Indian city, and a dry cloth along the top edge every few weeks answers it. For a mark, use a barely damp cloth and wipe rather than scrub, since scrubbing burnishes the print. When the wall changes, a non-woven sheet is made to be dry-stripped in one piece.

What is non woven wallpaper?

It is wallpaper built on a fibre backing rather than plain paper. The backing does not expand when pasted or contract as it dries, so seams stay tight and it hangs without soaking. Non-woven describes the base, not the design.

What is the difference between non woven and vinyl wallpaper?

Vinyl is a surface layer over a backing; non-woven is the backing itself, so they are not alternatives. Vinyl is chosen for wipe tolerance near a counter, non-woven for stability and clean removal. Everything we print is PVC-free and uses non-toxic inks.

Can non woven wallpaper be removed without damaging the wall?

Usually. The sheet is made to be pulled away dry in one piece rather than soaked off. The variable is the wall behind it: cured, sound paint releases cleanly, while a chalky or freshly painted surface can come away with the sheet.
